Good credit is key to obtaining the mortgage that you need. Check your credit rating and score for any errors or discrepancies including any changes in your mailing address, social insurance number, errors in your credit accounts, late payments or any unauthorized credit checks. If you do find any errors, contact your creditors to have them rectified or contact the credit reporting agency to dispute any errors. If your credit shows problems such as late payments or otherwise, work to correct them before applying for a mortgage. Improving your credit report can be done easily by ensuring bills are paid on time and lowering your debt load. Follow up with another credit check one or two months after your initial check to ensure that any errors have been changed. Continue to monitor your credit in the future to guard against fraud, errors and to verify that you are maintaining a healthy report. Both Equifax and TransUnion can provide you with your credit report in Canada. |
